Some brands rise and continue to grow while others plummet downhill, eventually being forgotten over time. Some of these started off well but failed for various reasons, which isn’t unusual in these rough economic times. If you have a brand that you want to grow or protect, take a look at a few brands that didn’t make it and see how you can avoid your brand falling to a similar fate. </p>
<p>Sometimes brands lose value due to poor management decisions, an inability to keep up with the competition, or simply because the brand has outgrown its “useful lifetime”. Sometimes failure is caused because of over-confidence, which leads to carelessness and laziness – both detrimental to the success of a brand. It doesn’t matter how powerful a brand is as any brand can be affected by bad decision making. </p>
<p>Look at the Chevrolet volt, for example. While it was a highly innovative car, it didn’t succeed for a couple of crucial reasons. The first being that there simply was not enough demand for it, which could be down to poor marketing. But, more importantly, some of the models had a faulty battery. This led to a recall of around 8,000 cars. Even though they eventually corrected the battery problem, it was too late. There were clearly a lot of bad decisions made along the way here.</p>
<p>The examples of once popular, well-known brands that have failed miserably are many. Nokia is a brand that was once a market leader but spiraled downward quickly and unexpectedly. They have not been able to keep up with the competition and when they tried to with the Lumia Smartphone, they failed to do so successfully as the phone was in itself faulty. </p>
<p>A good example of a brand that failed due to poor decision making is Netflix. Possibly over-confident and assuming any competition was far behind, Netflix raised their prices dramatically. The amount of customers they lost and the negative backlash has completely ruined Netflix’s reputation. Till now, the company has not been able to recover from the poor decision.  </p>

<p>When it comes to starting a business, there are a lot of considerations to make, especially if you want to launch an your very own product. If you do decide that you have a great idea that is unique to the market and profitable at the same time, then you will want to consider applying for patent. After all, you will protect your idea and, in the process, ensure you are not stealing an idea that already exists.</p>
<p>The process of obtaining a patent is relatively straight forward and you can get it from the website www.uspto.gov (United States Patent and Trademark Office). The first thing after ensuring your idea has not already been patented is to determine what kind of patent you will need. A design patent applies to inventions of ornamental characteristics; a plant patent refers to a “new variety of asexually produced plant”; and a utility patent consists of almost anything else like machines, a useful process, an article to be manufactured, etc. The utility patent is the most common and if this is the one you require you then need to determine which filing strategy you will require. </p>
<p>You might need an international patent or one relative within the U.S. only and that is up to you to determine. If you will require your patent only within the U.S. you should then determine whether or not it is provisional and you might also require expedited examination. An attorney can help you through the finer details if you are unsure yourself. Once you’ve completed the electronic filing process, the USPTO will get back to you after examination of your application and let you know the status. If you succeed in obtaining a patent you will pay issue and publication fees. If not, then you may apply for reconsideration. </p>

<p>If you have never owned a home before, you probably have a good idea of the features you want your future home to have. It is particularly convenient if you decide to build from scratch, since you can have your home specially customized to your taste. But being a first time homeowner also comes with a lack of experience, which means the potential to overlook certain problematic situations of homeownership that could prove frustrating in the future. </p>
<p>The first thing to do is review the insulation of your home while in the building process before it’s all covered up. This will ensure you get all the important spots that can be overlooked unintentionally. It is much easier to fix something like that before the walls are built over it. It could cost thousands to fix at a later point. </p>
<p>Traditionally, homes are built with the laundry room near the garage or in the basement, away from the main rooms. There are a few options to make laundry easier and more convenient. You can install a laundry chute upstairs that is somewhere central (like near the bedrooms or bathrooms) so that dirty clothes can be tossed easily. Alternatively, something becoming increasingly common these days, is to have the laundry room somewhere near the bedrooms, even if they are on the second floor. This requires some special plumbing but it’s not particularly costly if you get it done during the building process.</p>
<p>Another thing often overlooked is the way doors open. Sometimes they open in the wrong direction, blocking important parts of the house. This is something to think about carefully and figure out before doors are hung, when it will be too costly to fix. Also, make sure hallways and rooms are spacious enough. A spacious room or hallway will be worth it in the long run to avoid the extra costs of knocking down and re-building walls.  </p>

In fact, a report by KB Homes notes there was a 38% increase in fourth-quarter orders. This alone indicates there is enough demand to increase prices. Lennar reported a 21% increase in orders. So, while prices are still weak in general, there are some healthy communities where prices are stabilizing. When it comes to cars, Ford saw a 6.5% increase in sales and the overall sales of cars and trucks rose 11.2% over the past year. </p>
<p>Shopping has increased and this is a positive sign. Positive signs like consumer spending increasing by 2% in the last quarter and private sector jobs rising to hundreds of thousands at the same time, are things that can and should give us hope. More income means more consumer shopping now and in the future. Speaking of shopping, manufacturing has improved since 2010, resulting in more jobs and more “made in USA” goods, both good for the economy. In fact, factories in America increased factory jobs by an impressive 12%.</p>

This will help you narrow down builders who are building the exact style of home you want within your budget. Finally, ask your friends and family for advice. <p>Once you’ve narrowed down your list, contact the builders you are interested in. They can give you addresses and even homeowner names, in some cases, of homes they’ve recently built. This will give you the chance to see for yourself the quality of their work. If you can talk to these homeowners, ask questions about how happy they are with the quality of both the construction and service provided. Inquire as to how helpful the contractor was if there were any problems or disagreements. You will also get an idea if there are any negative aspects of working with the builders you are considering. </p>
